The Outlawz Anything But A Card challenge for September has no theme. Whilst on holiday aboard a Fred Olsen cruise to Norway there were some beading classes. I never imagined doing craft classes at sea, but on days where you are sailing all day they run classes in a lovely bright room up at the top of the ship. During our cruise it was beading and card making for the morning sessions and watercolour painting in the afternoons. There is a nominal charge of £5 for the beading session. The art sessions were higher charges and we didn’t go to them. I think the crafts available vary on each cruise, depending who is the expert on the cruise.
It was great for someone else to supply all the materials and not have to hunt through all the drawers and then find out that you don’t have everything that you need. It’s a while since I did any beading and I had forgotten how relaxing it is, except when you drop the beads or runout of a colour before you finish!
The bracelet that I chose to submit for the challenge is made with pale blue crystal bicones, clear crystal bicones and small silver spacer beads, similar to the linked products. The beads are thread onto a coil wire, which is sold in a length and you trim it to how many coils you require. Before threading beads one one of wire is turned in, one you have required beads and length the opposite end is turned in using jewellery pliers. The bracelet then wraps around the wrist naturally.
I think this is my favourite out of the things I made. I also made a single coil bracelet in same colours, another three coil bracelet in black rainbow crystal bicones with silver crystal spacers.
The other items I made were a lanyard, and a couple of hanging ornaments
It was a totally unexpected experience whilst on the cruise. When not crafting we got to see some beautiful places.
Crafting at home is not quite the same now! The cruise was amazing and I am hoping to write more about the experience and travelling with a wheelchair and dietary needs.
