The months are flying by, and as we head into August, it is time for a new set of challenges at Outlawz.
This month’s Anything but a Card challenge has no set theme, so I decided to create a framed shadow box for an Alice in Wonderland-themed tea party at my local care home.
The design is from LightBoxSG and is made up of eight layers. As orange is one of my favourite colours, I chose a black-and-orange colour scheme, which I think has worked really well.
I cut the layers from black card and several shades of orange using my I cut the layers from black card and several shades of orange using my Cricut Explore 4. Each layer has a small number cut into the corner, making it easy to arrange them in the correct order without needing detailed assembly instructions. I joined the layers using double-sided tape and then mounted the finished design in an IKEA box frame.
You can also see photographs from the tea party, along with some of the other crafty items made for the event and with the residents. It was great fun, although by the end I felt as though I needed a nap in the teapot!
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, written by Lewis Carroll, was first published in 1865. The idea for the story is said to have originated on 4 July 1862, when Carroll and the Reverend Robinson Duckworth took a rowing trip along the River Isis with the three young daughters of Carroll’s friend, Henry Liddell.
The book was illustrated by John Tenniel, whose distinctive black-and-white drawings have a wonderfully imaginative, although sometimes slightly unsettling, appearance.
I have a copy of the book that was published in 1977. When I opened it, I discovered a message written inside by my auntie for my seventh birthday. My auntie passed away in April, so finding it again was quite emotional.
The book was published by Purnell and was part of a large collection of classic stories with distinctive red covers..
